Ogechukwu N. Iloanusi (Ph.D.) is a Full Professor at the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Nigeria, Nsukka Campus. She joined the Faculty in October 2005.
She holds a B.Eng in Electronic Engineering; M.Eng in Digital Electronics & Computer Engineering and Ph.D. in Biometrics Recognition from the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, University of Nigeria.
Her research interests include biometrics recognition, signal processing, pattern recognition, artificial intelligence, computer vision and machine / deep learning.
She is a member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and Women in Engineering (WIE). She is a Commonwealth Fellow. Since 2006, She has completed supervision of 42 projects of least 120 undergraduate students and 28 postgraduate students. She currently supervises 6 Ph.D. students.
She is also the Director of research in the Biometrics Vision and Computing laboratory (BVCLab). She served as the very first Head of Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering from August 1, 2020 to July 31, 2023. She was also the first female HOD in the Faculty of Engineering. She is the first female Professor in the Faculty of Engineering, University of Nigeria since its inception in 1961.
She has over 50 journal and conference publications and has attended over 20 conferences and workshops internationally in countries in Africa, North America, Europe and the Middle East. She also authored the book titled – Fundamentals of Biometrics (2016) with other two co-authors.
Prof. Ogechukwu Iloanusi was twice a Visiting Scholar at the Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, West Virginia University where she carried out pre-doctoral research for a total of ten months from August 2009 to November 2009 and April 2010 to November 2010. She was also granted a Commonwealth Academic Fellowship Award by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK where she was a Visiting Fellow at the University of Southampton, Highfield, Southampton, UK from September 2012 to December 2012. She also participated in a Teaching Fellowship for Nigerian University Professors at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from September to December 2013, where she collaborated with the Faculty at MIT in the development of new curriculum and teaching methods that were adapted to her home university. She has also served as an Assistant Guest Professor in a one-year contract with the University of Notre Dame du Lac, Notre Dame, IN, USA, from a period of August 2016 to August 2017.
She is currently on Sabbatical Leave at the Center for Research Computing, University of Notre Dame, IN, USA.
